The combined website of the University of Manchester and the Manchester Metropolitan University Jitsu (Jiujitsu, Jiu Jitsu, Jitsu, it's all the same) clubs. The website features the latest news, videos, pictures, training times, a calendar and more. It's expanding daily so keep checking back to see what's happening.
For our newcomers, Jitsu is a fast paced, fun martial art primarily designed to teach a person to defend themselves. One of its most appealing qualities is the fact that it has kept up with the times, whilst we learn much of the original art of Jiu Jitsu, we practise a more modern adaptation, which includes defences from real life objects such as bottles, knives, baseball bats, etc.
Use the links on the site to learn more about the clubs, the Jitsu Foundation or the martial art itself. Alternatively, check out the photo gallery for pictures of Jiu Jitsu in action.
It's nearly the time you've been waiting for all Easter - MMU Jitsu it back to training tomorrow at 8:15pm in the Sugden Centre! It's going to be another jam-packed term, starting with the North West Regional on Saturday 28 April in Preston. For more info, check out the Facebook event. We need to give in a list of attendees so if you're interested in going, let the committee know a.s.a.p.
Also, this term we have the annual MMU Jitsu Barn Weekend coming up, socials, film nights, a grading and, of course, our end of year meal! So, keep an eye on the news, calendar and our Facebook group or the Manchester Jitsu page for more info.
It's nearly the end of term but we still have some exciting times up ahead! We're having the club pre-grading on Thursday 15th at 8pm. Next it's the North West regional course in Bangor on Saturday 17th. It's the first time the regional is being held in the region's newest club so you're in for a special treat! Finally, we have the grading on Saturday 24th in the Armitage Centre, followed by an end of term meal in Umami on Oxford Road. Everyone's welcome to the meal so come down even if you're not grading this time round.
Make sure you check out our Facebook group for more details closer to the time!
Great to see so many new and old faces back on the mat! It's going to be an exiting term! Not only that, but we have some events for your diary:

18 - 19 Feb - Randori Nationals
17 Mar - North West regional course
31 Mar - North West grading

There will be more details closer to the time for each but this is a little heads up so you don't miss out!
Halloween is fast approaching, and so is our Super Awesome Halloween Social, happening this Saturday! If you haven't already, check out the Facebook event and we'll see you all on Saturday in your best scary costumes!
We're having our first proper social THIS Friday (7 Oct), starting at 8pm. We're starting off in the Footage, and are then off to Propaganda at the Ritz to dance our way into the early hours. Elaine (our social sec) has managed to organise entry for £3 instead of the usual £5 and she's even got us queue jump!!
If you're new to the club, then this is a brilliant chance for you to get to know everyone better so make sure you come! If you'd like some more info, join the Facebook event, and click 'Attending' so that Elaine can give the club rough number of how many of us there will be.
Sadly summer's nearly over but at least that means we'll soon be back to regular training!! We're still in the Conference Room of the Armitage Centre but have a slight change to our training times; Mondays remain 8:30pm - 10pm but Wednesdays are now 8:30pm - 10:30pm. If you're unsure, you can check our calendar or Facebook group for the most up to date times and venues.
Also, with the start of term comes Freshers' Week and we will be at the Athletics Union Sports Fair. We have a stall on the 2nd floor of the Students' Union on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of September from 10am - 4pm. If you're a current member and have some time free, please come down and help us spread the word to potential new members. Alternatively, if you're new to Jitsu and want a chance to chat to some current members, or our Sensei, then pop by and say hello!
