People, people,
Some news. Hoodies will, I promise, be arriving within days.
The Saturday session was great, thanks to all those who attended, I believe we have a few new members as a result.
As long as all goes well with the theory test, the club will have two new minibus drivers (myself (Jamie) and Vicki) who will be your dedicated, designated and hopefully not desecrated drivers for the barn weekend...
Which brings us around nicely to, the BARN WEEKEND!
It's back, for the second year running. The barn weekend is a trip, to a barn (which has been made habitable by some clever entrepreneur types), with lots of food, merriment, cheese eating and other such enjoyable activities.
All those who wish to attend, please email Simon ( fusil89@live.co.uk ) and bring in a small deposit of £10 (to Simon).
Other than that, continue training and don't forget (Green and above) to cram in extra training on Saturdays where possible. Saturday sessions return this...Saturday!

MMU Jiu Jitsu Free Taster Session!
This Saturday (23rd Jan) MMU Jiu Jitsu will run a free introductory session in the Sugden Centre (Activity Room 2). The session is for anyone who wishes to have a go at Jiu Jitsu before committing to joining a club, not only will you be able to watch high grades show off some of the fancy moves, but also have a go yourself!
Come along to the Sugden Centre at 12:30 to get stuck in! Hope to see you on the mat soon!

21 December 2009, 11:22
Hello ladies and gentlemen, may I offer a warm and, 'with intent', Jitsu merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night. As you might know, we had the last session of the year on Thursday just gone, it was terribly fun and everyone got to do some really cool throws...fantastic! Now, for those of you so heavily obsessed with Jiu Jitsu you do not believe you can go an entire three weeks without it, Sensei Allen is still running his training sessions with the University of Manchester's club. They will be training as follows:
Wed 6th Jan | 8 - 10 pm | Sugden Centre
Wed 13th Jan | 8 - 10 pm | Sugden Centre
Wed 20th Jan | 8 - 10 pm | Sugden Centre
Wed 27th Jan | 8 - 10 pm | Sugden Centre
Then from the 1st of February things go back to normal. MMU's training will begin again on the 12th of January, however we will have an 'extra' training session on Saturday 23rd of January, which will be used to introduce anyone who wants to join after visiting us at the 're-freshers' fayre. This will be explained in greater detail in the first few sessions.
If you still haven't collected your belt, make sure you get down to a session as soon as possible to pick it up, Sensei is now bringing everyone's belt to every session in case people come to get them. That's all for now folks, once again I wish you all a merry Christmas and a very happy new year, and I will see you on the mat in Jan.
Jamie x
21 December 2009, 01:31
Guys and gals, thanks to all for coming to the post grading christmas party! Thanks also to Simon, you did a damn good job organising it! It was fantastic! Congratulations to anyone who passed the grading, don't forget to swing by and pick up (and try out) your new belts tonight or Thursday. If you can find anyone above you who passed and wants to get rid of their belt then, by all means see if you can get it passed down. Otherwise you can buy them from Sensei. Don't forget, t-shirts are still available at 8 pounds each, they might be useful if you want to combine getting a christmas present with enticing someone to join Jitsu! This week sees the last of the first term's sessions so make sure you get down and enjoy the fun! See you all soon. Jim.
28 November 2009, 10:46
Ladies and Gentlemen, for those of you who are going, please don't forget the Nage No Kata course today at 1400 in the Sugden Sports Centre, Activity Room...One I think. Time: Sat 28th November, 2 - 4pm. Cost: £4. Location: Manchester Sugden Sports Centre. Lead instructor: Richard Goulding. VERY useful, i.e. pretty much vital for our Light Blue grading. T-Shirts are still on sale at £8, speak so Simon if you want one. Peace out. x
27 November 2009, 03:15
as the "fantastic" Goodwin has already said, well done to everyone who went to nationals regardless of whether you competed or not, and if you survived even better. I will add that our particularly jazzy Manchester Jitsu T-shirts have arrived and are pretty damn good. If you want one come see me(Si) with £8 at training and you can get one. (if you want one it would be best to get it sooner rather than later, to ensure you get the size you want before we run out) see you all soon, I love you all. Si.
16 November 2009, 07:33
Nationals was awesome! I hope and believe that everyone who went had a fantastic time, nobody is allowed to forget "Park Inn, Telford". I'm sure you'll all agree that it was a rather nice hotel, especially for the price. Sauna and steam room! Faantastic! Anyway, congratulations to all those who competed and did well. Commiserations to all those who didn't or who, like me, pulled out of the competition due to wimpy injuries ;-). In true English style, "it's the taking part that counts" 'ey guys? Don't forget Man Uni are selling AU tickets for thie Wednesday (18th November. Hence, they will NOT be running a training session on that day), I'm still fairly sure we're all very welcome to go, I think I shall be (essay/dissertation permitting). Ask James Elliot about it, his email address is james@manchesterjitsu.org. I will, as soon as is physically possible, be making some minor updates to the website. Updating headings and things like that. I'll put everything in a subfolder or subdomain (i.e. ...jitsu.org/new or new.manchesterjitsu.org respectively) so that I can have people look at it, vote, leave comments, etc. before it "goes live" so to speak. I'll send out an email when the deed is done. Adios amigos, Jamie x.
11 November 2009, 13:11
Nationals this weekend! Those who are going, please be at the Sugden Centre before 17:00 on Friday. We will load up then go and meet Man Uni and make like a whole forest of trees! Also, those of you who wish to attend Man Uni's AU night, I believe you are all welcome, contact James Elliot (his email address is over there >>>>>>) to enquire.
6 November 2009, 09:36
Thank you all ladies and gentlemen, the all Hallows Eve (Eve) party was awesome. Everybody had a cracking time, some more than others apparently! We must apologise for last night's session being cancelled, this was due to circumstances beyond everyone's control as Sensei Orton could not make it and couldn't find a replacement at short notice either, however fear not! If you have money for the Nationals we will be taking this on Tuesday, we will also be running an extra session at some point prior to the grading to catch up on stuff missed last night. If we do run an extra session it's likely that it will be a few hours long, a fantastic chance to get some extra practice in before the grading!
22 October 2009, 20:06
All Hallows' Eve (Eve) Party!
Ladies and gentlemen, a party is to take place on the eve of the eve of the day of all those hallows...or something like that, either way it's on Friday the 30th of October @ 8pm and will progress through the night until sun-up.
It is our first joint social of the year (with Manchester University Jitsu) so I hope you all make a damn good effort to attend, this is an excellent time to get to know their Jitsuka so that you'll feel more at home when you go and train with them :-).
It begins in Remedy in Fallowfield, which is 7/8 metres North of Sainsbury's in Fallowfield! If you can't find Sainsbury's even with the help of
this link (which will look funny in the email of this newsfeed, sorry), then speak to your committee and we will guide you in (to Fallowfield, dirty minstrels). DRESS UP like dead things, evil things, ghostly things, blood sucking things, voyeuristic things (if you think that'll frighten people), etc. It's a fancy dress night :-)
Any questions, pop 'em our way (Jamie, Jesse, Simon).
Love,
Your Committee.

"Ladies and gentlemen...peasants and...pheasants(?)"
no, no, no that just wont do! not on my watch.
anyway; the regionals went great. I hope everyone who came learned a lot (they almost certainly did) and that just as importantly they enjoyed themselves (5 hours of jiu jitsu...who couldnt love that?). I hope that we can expect more of same enthusiasm in future.
Hope you all enjoyed the meal as well as the rest of the night.
well done.
From Simon (MMU)

NEW WEBSITE UP AND RUNNING!
Yes yes, it's finally here, manchesterjitsu.org (where you are now) is on its very own server, not stuck on jitsu.udwebdesign.etc.etc. It lives! The site is constantly being updated so keep checking, we hope to add more features to it soon (maybe emailing out the news to peoples?). If you have any suggestions, use the form at the
bottom of the page to let the committees know (both or MMU preferably because it's being designed by me (Jamie) so if you email Uni of it'll take a while to get to me).
27 September 2009, 22:49
Freshers' fayre was outstanding, thanks for all your help and thanks to all those who signed up while we were there. The Saturday session was brilliant, everyone had a great time and everyone who came out afterwards had a brilliant time also! Thanks again to everyone who came and helped, and to all of the new guys who joined in Saturday night! We hope to see as many of you on the mats as possible, a.s.a.p.!
21 September 2009, 19:36
On Tuesday the 22nd and Thursday the 24th of September we will be running training at the earlier time of 19:15 - 21:15. These sessions will be used to practice and get back into shape a little for the demonstration session on Saturday 26th, it is not compulsory that you attend these sessions if you wish to help on Saturday, however they'll be bloody useful, and of course fun. Freshers' fayre runs on Wednesday and Thursday from 09:00, it will be discussed at the Tuesday session! All those wishing to help please, come to the session on Tuesday or email the committee (you can use the form at the bottom of the site). Saturday's intro session will run from 14:30 - 17:30 and we need as many people as possible to help us out, MMU/Uni of Jitsuka alike.
8 September 2009, 17:24
MMU Training times have been moved, they are now Tuesday's and Thursday's at 20:15 - 22:15. Unfortunately these timings cannot be changed. Apologies to all of you who might find this inconvenient. MMU Committee.

MMU training times HAVE CHANGED! New times are currently

FIRST AID COURSE HAS BEEN CANCELLED:
Hi Guys,
I've had to cancel the 1st Aid course as Aidan is no longer able to do it now. I've tried to see if I can get others to fill this slot but they've not been able to.
Please watch this space for an announcement of the next 1st Aid course, which will, hopefully, be in March. Sorry guys and please make sure you let your students know,

A final reminder that the North West Regional course is tomorrow! It is being held at the Sugden Centre from 1-5pm, that is we will be on the mat at 1 so I expect to see you all in your gis by 12.45 in case we need to help move mats etc. Straight after we will be heading to Umami for food and then onwards for drinks so bring a change of clothes if necessary. In other news, the Randori nationals are coming up so if you want to come along, tell a committee member asap and if you've already put your name down then we need your pennies! And finally, the purple hoodies are finally here and can be collected at the regional if you let me know in advance or from training on Monday. Jen x

It is with a tear in my eye that I must inform you all of the retirement of Social Secretary James 'Jelly' Elliot. Jelly has served the club well for over a year and will be sorely missed (although he'll still be training - we can't get rid of him that easily!). However, Mr Jonny Beaumont has bravely stepped up to the position.
So, we're kicking off with Valentines Carnage this Saturday (13th) starting at Remedy at 8pm with sights set for cupids own, 5th Avenue. The theme is Jitsu Love, so just make sure you're looking smokin' smokin' hot and we'll storm the place with smiles all round!
See you at Remedy at 8 pm !!!
PS other news,
Tomorrow night Refreshers/beginners session, if you've been off and feared coming back, fear not, come and shake those cobwebs off tomorrow starting at 8 (as usual) , or if you have a friend who you think may enjoy Jitsu then bring them along, it will be the perfect opportunity to introduce them to Jitsu.
Saturday pre-carnage for greens and above at the Saturday session, 2 - 4 pm, Sugden Centre, well worth attending and drinks afterwards to warm us up for the evening!
Saturday 20th Feb, Regional course, Sugden Centre, 12 - 5 pm, no excuses not to be there!!
Sunday 28th Feb, First Aid course, aimed at higher grades but if you particularly want to do it please ask.
Weekend 6th/7th March - Randori Nationals, training both days in the morning and judo-style competitions in the afternoon. Not to be missed!
2 February 2010, 15:08
Training has now returned to the Armitage Centre at the usual times. We had a really good turn out yesterday so let's keep it up! Tomorrow (Wed 3rd) we will be having a post exams reunion social after training - starting at Remedy as usual with the return of free chips! The club will also be running a beginners/refreshers session next week on Wed 10th Feb instead of the usual training. If you are thinking of trying out Jitsu or want to get back into training then this is the perfect opportunity for you! The session will be in the conference room of the Armitage Centre, 8-10pm, although please turn up 15 minutes early if possible to fill out some forms. If you don't have a gi, please wear loose fitting clothing such as tracksuit trousers and an old tshirt. I hope to see you all on the mat soon, Jen

Hey, Xmas party time! The Christmas meal is going to be at Varsity opposite Whitworth Park at 8pm on Tuesday 15th December. I need to know how many people are going by Wednesday (25th November) and we need the money in by Monday 30th Novemeber. £12.95 per head for a three course meal and a range of options (including veggy) are available. I will be sending out lots of emails out and talking to people about this at training. Hope to see you all there! Jelly ps. thankyou for all help for selling AU tickets.. we sold out!
11 November 2009, 12:34
On the 18th November, that's the first Wednesday after the Nationals, its Jiu Jitsu's turn to sell AU tickets!
This is our club's main opportunity to make money for all future equipment needs, i.e. mats, weapons etc. So I plan for us all to go on an all out offensive to sell as many tickets as possible! **This means no training on the 18th November**
Also we are going to the AU night at Colliseum after to cause havok and mayhem! :-)
Ideas are welcome, but I suggest we all go dressed in fancy dress so we stand out and look awesome!
Get in touch, we will be selling tickets from about 11am onwards in the SU so help for any time you can..or indeed stay with us lovely people for all the 14 hours!! My email is jamese51113@hotmail.co.uk
Also, if you are in halls and think you can sell tickets to people in your flat/block or know people on your course who would want tickets PLEASE let us know. We'll have the tickets from the previous Thursday so can work out times to come round to your halls etc.

THE HALLOWEEN PARTY!!!
Date: Friday, 30th October 2009
Time: 8pm til sun goes up...
Starting venue: Remedy, Fallowfield (Just right next to Sainsburys in Fallowfield. Then we'll move on to different bars for more frisky fun! Not 42s... probably 5th Avenue but keep an eye out on the Facebook group for confirmation)
It's the first joint social of the year with the Man Met Jitsu Club and since it's Halloween, everyone is expected to dress up. Come as whatever you want, the more daring/frightening the better! (maybe prizes for best dress)
Naturally there will be consequences for anyone not dressed up! :P
Be there or be scared!!
16 October 2009, 20:47
Ladies and gentlemen...peasants and...pheasants(?)...an epic tale is about to unfold...a battle of skill, determination and wit (the Jitsu regional...?), followed by a night of hearty, haughty and naughty celebrations (the afterparty!). Regionals, Armitage Centre, 11:00. Aftermath,
Shahenshah, 18:00. Bringeth with thee some alcohol (to Shahenshah not the regionals!)
1 October 2009, 16:44
We're having our Fresher's Social on Saturday the 3rd of October!!
The evening will start in the Friendship Inn at 8pm, then we'll probably be heading to Baabar for several drinks and to some other bars before hitting a club either in Fallowfield or in town. It all depends on where you guys fancy going!
So bring your party hats and drinking games, and we'll see you on Saturday!!
29 September 2009, 11:41
Thanks to everyone who came down to our demo session yesterday - I didn't think we could fit than many people on our mat! If you were there to try out jitsu for the first time then I hope you had a good time and will be back for more and massive thanks to all the current members for helping out. Also, apologies for the cock-up afterwards with Baa Bar - you'd think they would realise that a sports team coming for drinks after training might be in trackie bottoms! If you missed out on your free drink talk to James our social sec at your next session and we'll sort something out!
14 September 2009, 20:30
So we've started back to our usual training times and place, the Armitage centre and we hope to see you on the mat soon!!
Also we could do with your help with welcoming the fresher's at the fresher's fair, telling them why we all love Jitsu so much! We're part of the sport's freshers fair, first floor of the student union
Tuesday 22nd September 10 am - 4 pm
Wednesday 23rd September 10 am - 4 pm
If you are free to help then please message one of the committee members (there may be a free session in it for you...)
8 September 2009, 14:42
Guys, here are the links to the files you need. 7-Zip is a program and you will need to install it if you cannot open .zip files, it's free and legal. Edits.zip is a folder containing around 14 versions of a poster for you to check out. Let me know (by email) what you think (and of this website if there's anything important there). Jamie
